4th Game – Milngavie vs Rhu 25th Aug 6.30pm
Come on the Wanderers!!!!
Milngavie Wanderers 5 – 2 Rhu
Scorers: Crerand 2, Robb 1, Roberto 1, Tum Tum 1.
The Wanderers entered the game favourites coming off the back of 3 straight wins. Rhu who once more this season looked like they would be better finding another league to play in having yet to record a victory this season entered the lions den at Staney Brigg.
Suprisingly it was Rhu who took the lead in the 17 minute once more highlighting the Wanderers inability to keep a clean sheet despite how poor the opposition happens to be. The goal seemed to be the kick up the back side the Wanderers team needed to get their game in order and to push forward and take the game to a weak Rhu team.
Crerand was first Wanderer on the score sheet, a ball in from the right by McHale allowed Crerand to skillfully flick the ball over helpless Rhu keeper. The 2nd and 3rd goals were to follow quickly with the 4th from Ross Robb probably the best of the lot having arrived late at the back post to powerfully head home a corner to take the game beyond Rhu’s reach.
Teh second half was a pretty dull affair with the highlight of the game being the Rhu sideline deciding they were not going for any ball that was knocked out at their side of the park. Bo ho Rhu we cannot wait to we make the return visit to return the complement.
Roberto added a fith from out running the Rhu defence to nip the ball past the diving Rhu keeper who is going to have a sore back this season having to pick the ball out the park this abount of times.
Rhu did get a penalty with 5 mintues to go which they converted to make the scoreline look better than it actually was.
Man of the Match – Ross Robb
3rd Game of the Season – The Wanderers vs East Kilbride
Milngavie Wanderers AFC 3 – 2 East Kilbride
Scorers: Stewart, Robb and Burke
The Wanderers secured all 3 points with a great second half fight back that ensured the boys from Milngavie stay at the top of the league for another week.
Short match report this week – Roberto down the left, crossed the ball in the box up pops Weir – goal. Fans go fu_kn crazy!!! All was to change within 3 minutes as East Kilbride get back into the game with a poor clearence seen the East Kilbride forward head home to make it 1-1.
Things went from bad to worse as the Wanderers once more shot themselves in the foot with a poorly defended corner seen the ball somehow find its way under Meeky Sr.
The Wanderers went into the break 2-1 down with no obvious way back into the game with a stuffy East Kilbride team defending well looking to secure their first 3 points of the season.
The second half explored into action on the 72 minute when 3 second half substitues combined to ensure the Wanderers made it 2-2 with aCrerand carefully placed header to make the final 18 mintues a grand stand finish.
The Wanderers winner arrived when local boy Burke rose high above the East Kilbride defence to head home the winner from an excellent cross by the impressive Roberto.
Man of the Match: Roberto for his superb forward play setting up all 3 goals.
2nd Game of the Season 17th Aug- Bearsden vs The Wanderers
Bearsden 1 – 2 Milngavie Wanderers AFC
Scorers: Ian Stevenson (2)
The Wanderers took on their local rivals Beasden on the impressive looking Thorn Park hoping to secure a further 3 points against a team who will be no doubt challenging for promotion come the end of the season.
The Wanderers had to change things around for the second game in a row as injury to G George and Paul Spalding meant that Chris Weir had to move back to centre half, with Ross Mcletchie and Steven McGlynchie coming into the team.
As expected Bearsden always give the Wanderers a tough game and this was not going to be any different. A large crowd seen two teams give their all with much of the game being halted by the ref who struggled to allow the game to flow.
Bearsden took the lead in the 20 minute when a lob into the box seen the Beasden midfielder strongly challenge the Wanderers keeper Meeky Jr for the ball – the ball ended up in the back of the net – and to the surprise to everyone watching the ref allowed the goal to stand.
Nothing seemed to be working out for the Wanderers – Cat McHale and Chris Sweeney tried hard to get the Wanderers back into the game by stretching the game down each flank but the Wanderers could not break down the well organised Bearsden defence.
Into the break the Wanderers went 1-0 down and no obvious way back into the game. The message at half time was simple get the ball behind the Beasden defence and get then turning and defending towards their own goal.
The impressive Gilberto ensured the Wanderers were not going to conceed again and started bossing the game from the left back position. his passes from the left started to cause the Beasden midfield and defence real problems.
In the 65 mintue the Wanderers got back into the game – good work by S Mcglynchie in the centre of midfield seen his pass turn the Bearsden defence to reach P McLynchie on the outside right position. His return pass into the box was judged poorly by the Bearsden keeper who in almost carbon copy of the Bearden goal dropped the ball under pressure for Stevie Mclycnhie having made a 30 yard sprint into the box to riffle hole the goal to get the Wanderers back into the match at 1-1.
Both teams pushed for the winner and in the 78 mintue the Wanderers got it. Good work by Tum Tum who seemed to get better and better as the game went on, managed to turn the bearsden defence again and again in the box before unleashing a shot that managed to go through the Bearsden goal keepers legs and into the net.
All 3 points to the Wanderers. Bearsden as always were graceful in defeat and the Wanderers look forward to the return fixture later in the season.
Man of the Match : Split between Tum Tum (2 goals) and Stephen McLynchie (Great all round performance)
1st Game of the Season – 14th Aug Wanderers vs Weirs
Milngavie Wanderers AFC 3 – 1 Weirs Recreation AFC
Scorers: Tum Tum (2), P McLyinchey 1
The Wanderes welcomed Weirs recreation to Staney Brigg in the opening game of 2010 – 2011 season with both teams looking to get their seasons of to a flyer by securing all 3 points.
Both teams were fielding relatively new teams having both rebuilt during the close season, but it was the boys at Milngavie that ensured they finsihed the game the happier team having played good football and scoring some fantastic goals.
Weirs started the game the more positive shooting down the slope and pinning the Wanderers defence deep in their own half for the opening 15 mintues of the game. The Wanderers defence looked like they had managed to weather the storm and were starting to get on top when a mix up between Meegy Jr and Frank McGarvey’s son ended up with the ball falling nicely to Johnston in the Weirs midfield who struck the ball first time low into the bottom corner of the net, to take the lead on 23 minutes.
The Wanderers management held their breath to see how the Wanderers – who had prepared well over the close season – would react and the response came on 30 mintues. A ball cleared by impressive Ross Robb was carefully flicked on by Kevin Tait and landed nicely at the feet of Tum Tum who out ran the Weirs defence to skillfully position the ball into the back of the net to level the score at 1-1.
It was all the Wanderers now and every player in the Milngavie team were winning their own little battles around the park – frustrating the Weirs players – and ensuring that the longer the game went on the more impressive the Wanderers became. The second Milngavie goal came again from Tum Tum who intercepted a bad kick out by the Weirs goalkeeper to slam the ball into the net to ensure the Wanderers entered the break 2-1 in front.
The second half was a tough encounter with the Weirs players sensing the game drifting away from them started to lash out on and off the ball. A great performance by Spalding at rightback ensured that the Milngavie Team were not going to be rolled over. It was not surprising when in the 70th minute the Weirs centre midfield player got a straight red for assulting Tum Tum. The Wanderers took full advantage and 75th mintue got a free kick 10 yards outside the box which was majically delivered by Paul McLynchie who riffled the ball high into the roof of the net direct from the free kick.
The Wanderers continued to play good football and only the fine efforts of the Weirs goalkeeper stopped Scott James from adding to the scoreline. The game was over in the 80th minute when the second Weirs player received a straight red card for another assault on Tum Tum leaving the Wanderers to play the last 10 mintues against 9 men.
Credit to the Wanderers they kept it professional and seen out the final minutes securing all 3 points.
Man of the Match – Tum Tum
