The Wanderers made the long journey down to Symington – not a good hunting place for the Wanderers in recent years – to play a Symington team that cannot seem to buy 3 points at the moment despite what looks like a promising young team.

The Wanderers again fielded another strong line up despite key absentees – Berto I hope you are reading this – but still managed to rack up a convincing performance to ensure the Wanderers fairy tail story in the league continues this season with promotion within touching distance for the first time in many years.

The Wanderers under the watchful eye of Tam McGorm on Saturday ensured that the team done the basics well – taking advantage of the heavy conditions on a tight park to see off any possible threat that Symington were hoping to deliver to a Wanderers team used to playing on near perfect playing conditions this year despite the heaving rain and frost.

Goals from Del Reid, Maxwell, Crerand, Simone and McKellar flattered the scoreline a little with 4-0 looking like the final result until a flurry of acitvity in the last few mintues seeing 2 further goals that continued the impressive goal tally since the turn of the year.

The Wanderers next week make the trip over the bridge to play Viewfield Rovers in what is sure to be another tough game despite Viewfild struggling to find their feet this year in the first division having been releagated from the premier division last year.

Come on the Wanderers.

Milngavie Wanderers 6 – 1 Bearsden Amateurs

Scorers: Franie, Maxwell (2) McKellar, Reid and Simone

The Wanderers inflicted one of the best footballing displays to grace Staney Brig in recent years on local rivals Bearsden.  The Wanderers fielding an attack minded formation were 2 up within 5 minutes with super strikes from Franie McGonagle and then from Mark Maxwell it was a case of how many as the Wanderers stretched their unbeaten run to 15 games.  Further goals from Del Reid, Simmy and McKellar before the break every goal a top drawer finish and a fine reward for the hard work going on in the background to assemble together a footbal squad that is going to be hard to beat.

Bearsden who only narrowly got defeated by Drumchapel United a few weeks earlier did not play that badly, and the second half seen a much more spirited performance from the Bearsden who played well and contained the Wanderers and scoring the first goal of the second half after sloppy play in the Wanderers midfield. 

With score 5-1 the last goal of the game went to the man of the match Mark Maxwell.  Breaking from the midfield he somehow managed to get onto the end of Berto cross skilfully directing the ball away from the helpless Beardsen keeper who was left stranded for the 6th time in the game.

A great performance and a great display by a Wanderers team who are going all out to achieve success this year.

Rothesay Brandane 2 – 3 Milngavie Wanderers AFC

The Wanderers secure all 3 point despite being doing to 10 men. Meeky got his marching orders at the end of the first half for a innocent challenge that unfortunately left the Rothesay striker with a double leg break. Everyone at the Wanderers – both players and officials wish the young chap a speedy recovery.

The Wanderers 1-0 let their lead slip and at the break were 2-1 with Rothesay second being scored from the resulting penalty that deputy goalkeeper Simmy volunteering to go in goals failed to stop.

The second half with the Wanderers shooting down the slope they went all out for the victory. Deciding to through caution to the wind the team set out with 2-4-3-1 formation.

Rothesay despite having the 1 man advantage failed to cope with the wave after wave of attack from the Wanderers who were trying to get that all important goal to get the game level.

New signing Frannie McLaughlin a recent addition from Kilpatrick entered the game with only 10 minutes of the second half gone and immediately took control.

After good work down the left by Roberto the ball fell to Dell Redify who left shoot rocket was brilliantly put round the post for a corner. The resulting corner ended up with the ball being initially cleared but then falling to the impressive Maxwell who rifled the ball into the net beyond the young Rothesay goal keeper.

With the game now perched on a knife edge the Rothesay boys were relying on quick counter attacks and on two occassions Simmy made wonderful saves to keep the Wanderers in the game.

With time running out the Wanderers got that all important 3rd goal. Maxwell gain – after neat work in the midfield allows Maxwell to get ahead of the play and with the ball falling nicely to him he got put the ball expertly into the net to get his 3rd of the game.

Manager Davy Caldwell – switched the team around in an effort to hang onto all 3 points – the introduction of the second new signing O’Hara again from Kilpatrick FC slotted in at right back.

Rothesay had one last go and only for great defending on the line by Ross Robb ensured a victory for the Wanderers.

Another great victory – come on the Wanderers.

Milngavie Wanderers 3 – 1 Rothesay

Scorers: Robb, Maxwell & Tum Tum

The band wagon rolls on – another 3 points in the bag despite a less than impressive performance by the Wanderers.

So often the thorn in the Wanderers side – Rothesay arrived at the game with only 11 fit players but this did not stop them from giving the Wanderers a game of it. From the kick off they were right up for the challenge and prepared to throw as many people forward as they could at every opportunity to get on the score sheet first.

Fortunately, for the Wanderers the first goal was scored by a rocket from the impressive Ross Robb who received a square pass from a short free kick to send the ball high into the roof of the net beyond the out stretched arms of the Rothesay keeper.

The second half was pretty much the same as the first with a hard fought battle going on in the midfield.  The centre mid for Rothesay is sure to attract attention from a number of clubs at the end of the season as he put in a great performance.

With the Wanderers ahead their was only going to be one winner in this game and the lead was doubled when corner from the right was mt perfectly by Maxwell who got on the score sheet for the first time this season.

The Wanderers scored their 3rd and killed the game off before ROthesay scored a late goal to make the score a little more respectable.

Another 3 points on the board.

Milngavie Wanderers 4 – 1 Syminton Tinto

The Wanderers captured their first 3 points of 2011 to secure their position at the top of the table.

Symington fielding a young team performed well and gave a good account of themselves – their performance suggested that they could easily start to climb away from the bottom of the table.

The Wanderers firing on all cylinders this season gave another good account of themselves with excellent performances from Simmy leading the line to Meeky in goals – who must be by far the best goal keeper in the league.
